National Philanthropic Trust also offers other services - a program to manage large Supporting Organizations for donors who are seeking a charitable alternative that has more similarities to a private foundation.

Dr. Robert C. & Veronica Atkins Foundation
Our most prominent Supporting Organization is the Dr. Robert C. & Veronica Atkins Foundation, that was funded with an initial gift of $40 million in 2004.  The Foundation funds independent scientific research examining the role of metabolism and nutrition in obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, Alzheimer’s Disease and other serious health concerns confronting our society today. One of the few grant-making organizations dedicated to research in this arena, it also supports educational programs and endowed professorships at major universities.

Foundational Questions Institute
NPT in partnership with the John Templeton Foundation formed Foundational Questions Institute (FQXi), a supporting organization whose mission is to research questions at the foundations of physics and cosmology.  To date, nearly $2.2 million in grants has been distributed, with topics ranging from “The Future History of the Universe including Time Variations in the Constants of Nature” to “Godelian Incompleteness and a Theory of Everything,” a study which will attempt to formulate mathematically the limitations of physics.

For more information about the Foundational Questions Institute, please visit www.fxqi.org.

NPT Breast Cancer Fund
The NPT Breast Cancer Fund is a special field of interest fund for breast cancer initiatives, including research, treatment, prevention, and education.  By providing a lasting source of support for the cause, in addition to future donor activity, the Fund is a perfect complement to the immediate granting practices of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and its grassroots Affiliate Network. To learn more about grantmaking activity of the fund, please read NPT Breast Cancer Fund Awards Multi-Year Grants.

NPT Breast Cancer 3-Day
NPT also partners with a national special event group that has managed walks to find a cure for breast cancer in most major cities in the country in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  NPT manages the events and will direct up to 15 percent of the net proceeds to establish the NPT Breast Cancer Fund, which will provide long-term support for breast cancer initiatives.  As the primary beneficiary, Susan G. Komen for the Cure will receive 85 percent of the net proceeds to support breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment programs.  To date, these charity-driven events have raised more than $25 million to fund critical breast cancer research, education and community outreach programs.  Click on the links below for more information:
