Charities Providing Direct Relief from Plains and Midwest Flooding
The following are 501(c)(3) U.S. charities providing direct aid and support to individuals and families affected by flooding in the midwestern United States. The Center for Disaster Philanthropy describes floods as a slow – and sometimes predictable – disaster. Donors who want to help have an opportunity to assist with emergency relief and recovery efforts, as well as mitigation and preparation for those areas facing a looming flood threat.
When recommending a grant, please indicate “Midwest Flood Relief” as the purpose of your grant to ensure that the charity correctly designates your gift. We encourage our donors to research all charities and charitable impact prior to entering a grant recommendation.
National:
Americares (EIN 06-1008595)
Americares Emergency Response team is working with local and national governments and partners, including Public Health Departments, to provide tetanus vaccines, hygiene kits, and first aid supplies to 25 counties in Nebraska.
Center for Disaster Philanthropy (EIN 45-5257937)
The CDP’s Midwest Early Recovery Fund was established to provide resources to communities affected by low-attention, and often seasonal, disasters. The Fund is designed to address issues from two weeks to eighteen months after natural disasters in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and South Dakota.
Mennonite Disaster Service (EIN 23-2713127)
MDS is coordinating with local officials and other aid agencies to determine where to respond, and cleanup crews are actively working in Nebraska. The organization focuses on cleaning, repairing, and rebuilding homes in affected areas, and priority assistance is given to those who otherwise would not have the means to recover.

Farm Rescue Foundation (EIN 35-2405914)
Headquartered in North Dakota, the Farm Rescue Foundation launched Operation Hay Lift to assist farmers and ranchers affected by flooding by coordinating volunteers and donations to minimize farm and ranch losses. Farm Rescue Foundation serves the states of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa.
Food Bank for the Heartland (EIN 47-0637701)
The Food Bank for the Heartland is coordinating with first responders and state and county emergency response teams to distribute items throughout their established network in Nebraska and western Iowa.
Food Bank of Siouxland (EIN 42-1381516)
Donations to the Food Bank of Siouxland for flood/disaster relief will be used to assist residents in the 11 counties surrounding Sioux City, Iowa. Any funds raised that exceed the cost of this emergency response will be held for use during future disasters.
Heartland Hope Mission (EIN 14-1869352)
Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the Heartland Hope Mission is providing groceries, hygiene items, and clothing to those affected by the floods. The organization is also providing staff to assist in connecting individuals and families with other community resources to help with their recovery.
Nebraska Community Foundation (EIN 47-0769903)
The Nebraska Community Foundation established the Rebuild the Heartland Community Fund to support recovery and rebuilding efforts in Nebraska, western Iowa, and southeastern South Dakota. Donations to the fund will be distributed to nonprofits working to address both short- and long-term recovery needs.
Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation (EIN 46-1740947)
The Nebraska Farm Bureau established a Disaster Relief Fund at the Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation to provide emergency aid to farmers, ranchers, and rural communities affected by the storms and flooding.
Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation (EIN 31-1748533)
The Flood Recovery Fund at the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation was established to assist residents of the Sioux Falls, South Dakota, recover from the winter storm and flooding.
