Charities Providing Direct Relief from Hurricane Florence
The following are 501(c)(3) U.S. charities providing direct aid and support to individuals and families affected by the Hurricane Florence. When recommending a grant, please indicate “Hurricane Florence Relief” as the purpose of your grant to ensure that the charity correctly designates your gift.
We encourage our donors to research all charities and charitable impact prior to entering a recommendation for a gift.
American Red Cross (EIN 53-01966050)
The Red Cross has assisted with evacuation centers and emergency shelters in addition to meals, cots, blankets, equipment, and other supplies. Working with other local partners, the Red Cross is also working to deploy field kitchens to produce meals in areas where people need it most.
Americares (EIN 06-1008595)
On the ground in North Carolina before Hurricane Florence arrived, Americares is focused on meeting the immediate needs of affected communities. Emergency medicines and relief supplies have been provided to displaced families, and Americares is also supporting damaged health clinics in the area.
Center for Disaster Philanthropy (EIN 45-5257937)
In anticipation of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season, CDP established the CDP 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund to focus on mid- and long-term recovery needs. Funds will be distributed as soon as a few months after a major hurricane, supporting initiatives to support vulnerable populations, fill gaps left by public resources, foster collaboration among donors, and promote cross-sector coordination.
Habitat for Humanity (EIN 91-1914868)
Habitat for Humanity focuses on long-term recovery, the most underfunded phase of disaster response and recovery, tailoring a plan based on the specific needs of a community well after the immediate response to a natural disaster has passed.
Humane Society of the United States (EIN 53-0225390)
An Animal Rescue Team was on the ground in the Carolinas in advance of landfall, dispatching equipment and personnel to affected areas as needs have developed and changed. HSUS also provided logistical and financial support for shelter evacuations in advance of the storm in North and South Carolina as well as Virginia.
Team Rubicon (EIN 27-1720480)
Uniting military veterans with local first responders and medical professionals, Team Rubicon has nearly 4,000 volunteers in Georgia and the Carolinas. Following mass and social media, their operations team determines the communities and areas most in need of assistance, from rescue to debris removal.

Central Carolina Community Foundation (EIN 57-0793960)
The Central Carolina Community Foundation serves the Midlands of South Carolina. The OneSC Fund has been established to assist in disaster recovery efforts by local nonprofits.
Coastal Community Foundation of South Carolina (EIN 23-7390313)
CCF, serving nine counties in coastal South Carolina, has established the Disaster Relief Fund to assist in relief and recovery.
Eastern Carolina Community Foundation (EIN 20-4654550)
ECCF works in the Pee Dee area of South Carolina and manages the Pee Dee Disaster Relief Fund, distributing funds to nonprofits working to meet the needs of victims in the area.
Foundation for the Carolinas (EIN 56-6047886)
The Foundation for the Carolinas serves 13 counties in North and South Carolina and has established a fund for Hurricane Florence relief efforts. Once the full impact of the storm is realized, the fund will make grants to local nonprofits that provide assistance to survivors.
North Carolina Community Foundation (EIN 58-1661700)
Serving the entire state of North Carolina, NCCF has a permanent disaster relief fund. Funds are distributed based on the need and scope of any disaster to nonprofits assisting victims and communities with lingering needs once the immediate recovery phase has passed.
The Outer Banks Community Foundation (EIN 58-1516313)
The Foundation manages a Disaster Relief Fund, assisting those in Dare County, NC, that have been affected by natural disasters.
Waccamaw Community Foundation (EIN 56-2121992)
The Waccamaw Community Foundation serves the Waccamaw Region of South Carolina, distributing funds to local organizations focused on immediate relief efforts and meeting unmet human services needs.
