Impact Investing

Positive social change. Competitive financial return. Both are possible with impact investing.

As impact investing has evolved into a more powerful tool for good, so too has National Philanthropic Trust’s impact investing platform. Today, NPT is helping donors achieve their philanthropic goals by offering four new impact portfolios for their donor-advised funds (DAFs): Broad Social Impact, Economic Mobility, Environmental Stewardship and Gender Lens. Our new portfolios actively pursue social and environmental solutions alongside competitive financial returns.

We realize that grantmaking alone will not solve the most complex problems facing society. With NPT’s impact portfolios, our donors can amplify their impact by aligning their grants—in support of renewable energy, gender equity or affordable basic services in housing, education and healthcare—with investments that also champion solutions in these areas.

While NPT has offered impact investing funds since 2015, our new, industry-leading impact portfolios provide donors with a complete, diversified allocation strategy for their DAFs in a single investment vehicle. NPT developed these new offerings in partnership with CapShift, the preeminent provider of impact investment solutions. Each portfolio contains a mix of 9 to 10 carefully selected investments, which support issue areas identified in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. By investing in these new impact portfolios, our donors’ philanthropic capital starts doing good immediately, even before a grant is recommended.

“It was the right time to research the best next-generation investments for our donors. We hope to help them achieve their philanthropic goals with a favorable bottom line.”
